There is a cherished custom for Jewish parents to say this traditional prayer at bedtime with their children from Deuteronomy 6vs.4:
“Shema Yisrael-Hear O Israel,
Hashem Elokeinu-The Lord is our G-d,
Hashem Echad-The Lord is One.”
Dvora has brought a humorous touch into the picture with her choice of birds roosting in the treetops, showing how they also close their eyes whilst reciting the Shema before going to sleep. The wise owl spreads its wing over the eyes of the giraffe, as if reminding him to close his eyes too!
This colorful painting is a lively addition to any child's bedroom or nursery.
